About Me

Passions

It is hard for me to pinpoint one thing in my life that I am really passionate about. I am often called a jack of all trades because I have many small hobbies that I like to keep up. Few examples are that I love to crochet and repurpose things. I just redid all of the throw pillows on my bed by covering them in new crochet cases. I also enjoy baking and used to have my own baking business, and love the challenge of trying to figure out new recipes. And I love to do things that are more technical and hands on. This summer I found a 1960’s Schwinn on the side of the road and have started to change out the tires and get it back to being safely rideable (right now it does not have brakes).

Try and Try Again

I started out my college education in Mechanical Engineering. I was set on this as a career path from the time I was a sophomore in high school until I was a Junior in college. I had worked for two different companies as an engineering intern for at total of 4 years ( during school breaks and after my classes were done). I was always sure that I wanted to go into a STEM field and engineering had a way of incorporating creativity into the solutions to the problems we were solving.

It wasn’t until I got done with all my general education and introduction to engineering courses that I started to take physics classes. Growing up I went to a school where each grade had approximately 35-45 students, and my school was too small to offer physics classes. So while others in my college statics class had taken AP Physics classes in high school, I had no background at all. This was rather daunting and added to my stress of how hard the material already was. I started to have my doubts about my major, but because I had already done so much to try and achieve my goal I was too stubborn to quit.

I made it through my first physics class, but then I moved onto Mechanics of Materials where the whole class built off of what I had learned in statics. I pushed through MOM and barely passed the class, and that is when I decided to try and find another major that better suited what I wanted to do in the future. I ended up having conversations with a couple different advisors but ended up choosing Applied Math and Computer Science with an interdisciplinary concentration so all of my engineering courses still counted towards my degree.
